HOW TO DESIGN INNER NECK PRINTS

So you want your clothes to stand out from the rest?

One of the best, and also easiest ways to do this is with a custom inside neck print! Inside neck prints add that little extra touch of professionalism to a garment, and will go a really long way towards making your brand stand out, and building brand awareness with your customers.

In this blog, we’ll be going over some key aspects of the inside neck print, and we’ll share some tips that we’ve picked up over the years on what makes a good inside neck print design.

1. Software

You can use any graphic design software that you’re used to, just make sure that you can choose which format to export to.

2. Setting up your file

Let’s start by setting up your design file. A good size for an inside neck print is about 7cmx7cm so we’ll set it to that, and very importantly we’ll set the DPI to 300. This ensures a nice and crisp high-res print.

3. The Logo

Now that our file is ready to work with we can start with the first major element of your design, the logo. If your brand already has a logo, this part is really easy. Simply pop the logo at the top and you’ll be good to go! One thing to watch out for is detail, if your logo has a lot of fine detail it might be a good idea to create a simplified one as these fine details get lost really easily in a small print like this.

4. The size

Next up is, of course, the size of the garment, make sure that this is prominent so your customers (and you) can quickly identify the size of the shirt. Having this be a different, or inverse, colour from the rest of the design will seriously help make it stand out.

5. Additional Information

Then you’ll want to give some more information your customer will care about. You can add your brand slogan, the material the shirt is made from, where it was made, or whatever you like. You can even write a little message to your customer to tell them how good they look. Be creative and have fun with it!

6. Washing Instructions

Then, last but not least, you’ll want to add the proper washing instructions so your customers don’t shrink their shirt after the first wash. For 100% cotton shirts like ours, the most important information to add would be cool wash, do not tumble dry, do not iron on print and do not bleach. In this design I’ve decided to use these symbols (you can find them here) however, you can also add these in text form if you prefer.

7. Colour

Another important aspect to consider is the colour. Why is this important? Because if you print a solid black label on a white shirt, it will show quite prominently on the outside of the shirt. The same goes for any light colour of fabric. Also, if you print a dark grey onto a grey melange shirt it can sometimes be really hard to see. So we recommend using a medium grey colour for inside neck prints on white garments, and a charcoal grey if it’s on melange. There’s no set rules here but just take colour into consideration when making your design and remember that the lighter the fabric is, the more likely it will be to show through.

8. Final Steps

All that’s left is to make sure that your background is removed, and then you can simply export the file as a transparent PNG and it’s ready to print!
